New research reveals that the majority of Americans support stem cell research and therapeutic cloning from in vitro fertilized embryos to cure cancer or treat heart attacks.
From the article:
The study, “U.S. attitudes toward human embryonic stem cell research,” published this month in Nature Biotechnology, was conducted by Univ. of Nevada, Reno faculty members Mariah Evans (lead author) and Jonathan Kelley, who surveyed a large, representative national sample of 2,295 respondents in 2009. Their most significant findings include:
- More than two-thirds of respondents approved of using therapeutic cloning (nuclear transfer of the patient’s own genes) and stem cells from in vitrofertilized embryos to cure cancer or treat heart attacks, while only about one in six respondents did not approve. Therapeutic cloning remains banned in the U.S. today. About one in six respondents had mixed feelings or was undecided.

Like most polls, this should be taken with a grain of salt, but it’s still worth noting.
" … Another recent study in Michigan showed that the current federal minimum wage — a paltry $7.25 per hour — would need to be doubled to cover basic expenses for a single adult worker and more than tripled to cover the same expenses for an adult worker with children. …”
" … In 2005, Bachmann told the Minnesota state Senate that abolishing the minimum wage could “wipe out unemployment completely.” When Good Morning America‘s George Stephanopoulos asked her for evidence to back up that claim today, Bachmann struggled to find an answer, initially dodging the question before finally referring to the minimum wage as a regulation that is “inhibiting job growth” and saying it needed to be examined:
STEPHANOPOULOS: Let me try this one more time. So you’re saying the minimum wage is one of those regulations you’d take a look at? You’d try to eliminate it?
BACHMANN: Well, what I’m saying is I think we need to look at all regulations. Whatever ones are inhibiting job growth, that’s what we need to look at.
STEPHANOPOULOS: And the minimum wage is one of them?
BACHMANN: All regulations, George. I think every department, we have just too much expansion of government, and what we need to do is tamp that down so the American people can keep more of what they make. …”
“If you are a wealthy C.E.O. or hedge fund manager in America right now, your taxes are lower than they have ever been. They are lower than they have been since the 1950s. And they can afford it,” Mr. Obama said. “You can still ride on your corporate jet. You’re just going to have to pay a little more.”
President Obama’s health care overhaul registered a legal win Wednesday, with a federal appeals court in Cincinnati voting 2-1 that the bill’s requirement that all citizens obtain health insurance (the ‘individual mandate’) did not violate the Constitution’s commerce clause. The ruling upheld a district court ruling that also found the law constitutional.
Writing for the majority, Judge Boyce Martin said: “Congress had a rational basis for concluding that the minimum coverage provision is essential to the Affordable Care Act’s larger reforms to the national markets in health care delivery and health insurance.”
Last December, federal judges in Virginia and Florida deemed the legislation unconstitutional because of the Commerce Clause issue. Earlier this month, a federal appeals court panel in Atlanta heard a lawsuit against the legislation brought by 26 states calling for repeal.
As the AP notes, this is the first ruling by a federal appeals court on the law.
So There IS Justice!
(Not on the SUPREME Court, of course, ….. but maybe those court Justices will come down with Early Alzheimer’s!
C’MON Folks! Do Not Fear the Government. Make Them Fear YOU! Go to the FBI Tip Line and Tip Them Off to terrorism against any and all individuals in the US who assist Wikileaks! At this moment, they are “Interrogating” “Suspects”
It goes against the Supreme Court Ruling concerning The Pentagon Papers.
They are doing this without cooperation with the Justice department.

It must be replaced or supplemented in a major way by a renewable alternative system or, forget Westphalia, the planet will be subject to environmental disaster of a sort hard to imagine today.”—Hampshire College professor of peace and world security studies Michael T.
